TellyRank ("we," "us," or "our") operates the TellyRank website and mobile app (the "Service"), a platform for ranking movies and TV shows through head-to-head comparisons. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have.

Account information. When you create an account, we collect your email address and a password (stored in encrypted form by our authentication provider). You also choose a username and may add a display name, bio, and avatar image.
Optional profile and demographic information. You may optionally provide demographic details such as an age range, gender, country, and city. These are used to power aggregate insights and are never required to use the Service.
Contacts (for friend discovery), if you enable it. If you turn on contact discovery, we generate one-way cryptographic hashes of contact identifiers (such as phone numbers or emails) so you can find people you know on TellyRank. We store only these hashes, not your raw contacts, and you can disable this feature at any time.
Your activity on the Service. We store the rankings you create, your watchlist, comparisons, comments, and who you follow. This is the core content that makes the Service work for you.
Usage and analytics data. We collect information about how the Service is used — for example, sessions, searches, ranking actions, the platform you're on, referring pages, and general user-agent/device information. Some analytics are collected before sign-in and are tied to a session identifier rather than to your identity.
Push notification tokens. If you enable notifications, we store the token needed to deliver them to your device.
We use the information above to: provide and operate the Service, including saving and displaying your rankings; enable social features such as following others and (if enabled) discovering contacts; produce aggregate, non-identifying insights about how titles are ranked; improve and secure the Service, diagnose problems, and prevent abuse; and communicate with you about your account and, if you opt in, send notifications.
We do not sell your personal information.
We rely on a small number of service providers to run the Service: Supabase (backend hosting, database, and authentication); The Movie Database (TMDB) for movie and TV metadata and images (this product uses the TMDB API but is not endorsed or certified by TMDB); and a push notification provider to deliver notifications you've enabled. These providers process data on our behalf under their own security and privacy commitments.
We keep your information for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, we permanently remove your personal data from our systems, including your profile, rankings, watchlist, comments, follows, contact hashes, demographic data, and activity records. Aggregated, non-identifying data that no longer identifies you may be retained.
Access and update your profile information at any time in the app. Delete your account directly in the app under Settings → Danger zone; this permanently deletes your account and associated personal data and cannot be undone. Disable contact discovery or notifications at any time in your settings. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights (such as access, correction, portability, or deletion) under laws like the GDPR or CCPA. We use industry-standard measures — including encryption in transit, hashed credentials, and one-way hashing of contact identifiers — to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to protect your data and respond promptly to issues.
The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.
Your information may be processed and stored in countries other than your own, including the United States. By using the Service, you consent to this transfer.
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we'll revise the "Last updated" date above and, for material changes, provide a more prominent notice.
